Whole School Approaches

Whole School Approaches are comprehensive strategies used in education to promote positive outcomes for all students by involving the entire school community. Whole school approaches integrate policies, practices, and culture across all areas of school life, rather than addressing issues in isolation (like behaviour, wellbeing, or academic achievement).  Whole-school approaches are important because they create a consistent, and supportive environment for students, staff, and the broader school community. This ensures that policies and practices are aligned across classrooms, leadership, and support staff. This consistency helps students feel secure and know what to expect.

At Nemarluk School we have a range of approaches such as Berry Street Education Model (BSEM), Structured Teaching, Meaningful Maths, Read Write Inc and Keeping Children Safe these are used to support Nemarluk students’ wellbeing, engagement, and learning through targeted, evidence-based strategies.

BSEM focuses on trauma-informed teaching and emotional regulation; Structured Teaching supports students with additional needs through visual structure and routine; Meaningful Maths makes numeracy relevant and accessible; Read Write Inc. provides a structured phonics-based approach to build early literacy skills and Keeping Children Safe promotes protective behaviours and child safety. Together, these programs contribute to a holistic, inclusive, and supportive school environment.
