Principals Welcome

Welcome to Nemarluk School.

We are a specialist school for students with disabilities, catering for students from Preschool to Year 6.

I extend a warm welcome to all new and existing students, families, and staff. I am proud to be the Principal of Nemarluk School and I believe in the importance of providing opportunities for all students to learn in an environment that meets their individual needs.

- Virg Hughes, Principal

Little about me

I have been working at Nemarluk School since 2013 as Assistant and Associate Principal, before becoming the Principal.

I come from a large family being the eldest of 7 children. I have two siblings with disability which is why I became an educator. I started out as a Teacher’s Aide supporting a student who was in a local school and then decided to become a teacher working in Special Education.

I am passionate about the education of students with disability and am committed to making a difference for our learners, staff, families and the wider school community. I am excited to have the opportunity to build on the work done before me over the last few years by previous Principals Lorraine Hodgson, Bert Beekhuizen, Pam Young and Kaye Jones.

At our school, we believe in providing a nurturing and inclusive environment where every student can thrive and reach their fullest potential. We are dedicated to supporting students with diverse learning needs, ensuring that they receive the best education and support to succeed. Our school has partnerships with seven local primary schools who host satellite classes.

Our team of dedicated educators and support staff are qualified and experienced in working with students who have various learning challenges and disabilities. We provide individualised programs with students at the centre of what we do.  Our goal is to empower our students to become confident, independent, and successful individuals.

We understand the importance of open communication and collaboration between the school, parents, and the community. This website will serve as a platform for sharing updates, news, and important announcements.

I would like to express my gratitude to our dedicated staff, the supportive parents, and the entire community for their unwavering commitment to our school's vison of being a school of excellence for students with disability. Together, we can make a difference for our students.
