Read Write Inc

Nemarluk School uses the Read Write Inc. approach to support students in developing strong early reading and writing skills. Read Write Inc. is a structured phonics-based literacy program that teaches children how to read by learning the sounds that letters make and how to blend these sounds to form words.


Through daily, structured lessons, students practise reading, spelling, handwriting and writing, building accuracy, fluency and confidence. Students are often grouped according to their reading level so teaching can be targeted to their needs, helping every child progress at their own pace and develop a love of reading.

Read, Write, Inc. Phonics Program is a Whole School Approach that supports students to:

  • develop letter-sound knowledge and blend sounds into words
  • develop reading fluency and read with comprehension
  • develop co-operative behaviour and communicate their ideas and understanding
  • spell and write with confidence.
