Nemarluk School students are loving their new all-inclusive playground, constructed thanks to local businesses and a $300, 000 Building Better Schools grant.
The amount of hard work, persistence and spirit that has gone into this projectis what has brought us to where we are today. Nemarluk’s generous school community was echoed by the Darwin community and local businesses who have supported this journey.
A playground design company explored many different options with staff, students and school council. Included in these options was the plane design, which to most seemed too large and expensive, but regardless the team optimistically said ‘go for it – this needs to happen.’ So we did. Money flowed in from families, colleagues, staff, the NT Government – Department of Education, unknown community members and a variety of Darwin businesses.
With our supporters we established the WINGS brand which was used to continue fundraising towards the playground. We had a wonderful event at the Wirraway Centre which highlighted and acknowledged the support we had received so far. Other fundraising done through the school included raffles, sausage sizzles and a trivia night. Our brand will continue into the future as we give other projects ‘WINGS.’
Thank you to all who donated and assisted with this amazing project! Throughout this journey it has greatly reflected that a little can go a long way.
